This week’s Hornet of the Week is Kayla Totter. Kayla is a lifelong Hornet and a member of the Area Champion Lady Hornet Track and Field Team. Kayla’s hard work and long discus throws helped her qualify for the 2023 Region IV-5A Track Meet. Off the Court, Kayla is respected by her classmate and teachers.
How long have you been attending Flour Bluff?
I have been attending Flour Bluff since Kindergarten.
What do you enjoy most about playing this sport?
I enjoy being apart of track because of the friends I make while doing my best to compete. We’re always constantly pushing each other to our very limits. I love the coaches because they have help guide me every step of my journey in track.
Do you have any pre-game/match/meet rituals?
Before every meet, I will play my pre-meet playlist while I warmup and stretch.
Who has the best nickname on the team and what is it?
Teagan Hadden, she is one of my freshman who throws with me, and at practice we would always call her “T-Dawg” or “Tajin”
What is your favorite class?
My favorite class is with Mrs.Huckabee, her AP Environmental Science class. I love going on the fields trips we have in that class because they are hands on activities that can benefit us in the future with our career path. She has always been an inspirational teacher when it comes to help bettering our environment and our local wildlife.
What type of volunteer work are you involved in within your community?
I volunteer for Interact Club. Every first Wednesday of the month we go read to the ECC kids. I also volunteer at the Texas State Aquarium. I love volunteering at the Aquarium, because the employees are super nice and they don’t mind teaching what they know about ocean plants and animals.
What are your plans after graduation?
After graduation I plan to attend Texas A&M University- Kingsville to work towards my bachelor’s degree in Animal Science. Eventually, after getting my bachelors I will work towards Agriculture Veterinary school.
What is your favorite sports related movie?
My favorite movie is Miracle Season. It’s a about a High School volleyball team who lost their number one player and they start to have a fallout. Throughout the movie one girl steps up to bring all the girls back together as one team to help with the state championship in honor of their teammate who passed away.
Do you have a favorite Pro or college team?
My favorite team is definitely track and field team at UT.
Do you have a favorite quote you live by?
I have always lived by Phil 4:13, because it is a very insightful quote that has helped me through all of the extracurriculars I do.
What song best describes you or is the soundtrack to your life?
Anything that is pumped up because I’m always looking for excitement in life.
What is your favorite food?
My favorite food is definitely Chick-Fil-A or Mexican food.
Do you have any special talents or is there something surprising about you that others might not know about you?
I have 11 siblings in total.
Is there anything else you would like to say about yourself?
During my free time I like to go fishing, going to the beach, shopping, or going to the gym.
