A heavyweight match up is taking place this Friday night at Hornet Stadium as Flour Bluff takes on Veterans Memorial. This will be the Hornets first district game, and they are expected to be well rested coming off of a bye week. The last meeting between the two teams ended in a narrow win for Veterans Memorial and sets up a rivalry classic this Friday.
Veterans Memorial are coming off a 55-19 rout of King. Veterans was able to rush for almost 400 yards against the Mustangs. Senior receiver David Soto had yards receiving, passing, and rushing. He also leads the Eagles in rushing with 232 yards. Junior quarterback Joseph Gonzalez leads the team in passing with 364 yards. Gonzalez did not play in last week’s game against King, which allowed sophomore Carter Senterfitt to take the reigns. The Eagles have more rushing yards than passing yards so far this year, which is rare to see in any level of the sport. Big time play is expected out of QB Joseph Gonzalez, WR Sethe Solis, WR David Soto and LB Cedric Evans.
The Hornets are coming off of a bye week after beating the Calallen Wildcats the week before with a score of 33-28. Sophomore RB Isaac Miles had a amazing game. By returning a kickoff in the 4th quarter to give the Hornets the lead over the Wildcats and making a game ending reception, Miles had a tremendous impact on the outcome of the game. He also ended night with 132 rushing yards on 11 attempts. Senior DB Roshawn Odom had a great game defensively with 13 tackles (12 solo, 1 asst.). Big time play for the Hornets is expected Friday night from RB Isaac Miles, DT Isaiah Alday, LB Javaris Lawson, and QB Braden Sherron.
