As the Flour Bluff Lady Hornet volleyball team got on the court for their 2019 campaign, two people by the name Geurin took the court by storm. Meet sisters senior Gloria Geurin and sophomore Katy Geurin. These ladies are family on and off the court. Gloria is a three year starter on varsity and this year is Katy’s first year on the varsity team.
“She motivates me, she talks to me a lot after the games and tells me what to improve on and it really helps,” sophomore Katy Geurin explained. The Geurin sisters have helped the Lady Hornets explode to a 30-5 start (4-1 in district 29-5A). This is the first time the sisters are on the same team together for Flour Bluff High School. In addition, they have played together on club volleyball and select basketball teams.
Together, they teach each other how to be a caring teammate. “She helps me be more of a leader and her [Katy] being so close she helps me out on being more vocal,” explains senior Gloria Geurin.
Parents Jeff and Amy Geurin are extremely proud of the girls and enjoy watching their daughters compete and play together. “This has been the best year watching the games as well watching the girls evolve beyond sisterhood to teammates,” Amy Geurin said. “It fills my heart.”
The Geurin’s also have one more daughter, Lily, a 7th grader currently on the 7th Grade A volleyball team at Flour Bluff Junior High. Katy and Gloria explained their goal is to motivate and encourage her.Katy and Gloria show their hornet pride by living by the Flour Bluff moto Class, Pride, Heart in the classroom and on the volleyball court.
