The Hornet of the Week is awarded to Flour Bluff Student-Athletes who exhibit Class, Pride, and Heart on and off the athletic field.  This award recognizes Student-Athletes who are well-rounded representations of what Hornet Student-Athletes should be. These athletes combine academics, athletics, community service, along with involvement in campus activities with an emphasis on leadership.

The Hornet of the Week is three-sport athlete Wyatt Elwood.  Wyatt is a captain on the Hornet Football team, where he also serves on the Football Leadership Team.  Wyatt is a three-year starter who plays on offense, defense, and special teams.  He is also a 1st team Wide Receiver and was named preseason Defensive MVP.  In his career, he has helped lead the Hornets to the State Semifinals and an undefeated District Championship.

Wyatt also runs track for the Hornets. He participates in the 4X100 and 4X200 relays, 200-meter run, long jump, and triple jump. Wyatt advanced to the State Track Meet after winning the Regional Championship in triple jump.

Wyatt is also a part of the Hornet baseball team. Wyatt is an outfielder under head coach Jesse Butter.

Off the field, Wyatt volunteers and helps with the Flour Bluff intramural 7-on-7 program. He is also very active in the Flour Bluff – Padre Island 4-H Club, where he raises turkeys.  In 2018, Wyatt’s turkey was named Grand Champion at the Nueces County Junior Livestock Show. Wyatt also volunteers and tutors children at his local church.

Wyatt’s mother Stacy is a Pre-K teacher at the Flour Bluff Early Childhood Center, and his father Clynt is the Defensive Coordinator and Head Boys Track Coach at Flour Bluff High School.  After high school, Wyatt plans to attend college and play football at the next level.  Wyatt is the epitome of the Hornet Characteristics of Class, Pride, and Heart.
