The Hornet Football team will face their old district rival the Calallen Wildcats on Friday.  This game is undoubtedly the game of the week in the Coastal Bend. The Wildcats escaped with a narrow 28-21 victory over San Benito in Week One football action. The Wildcats running game helped to push them to their first win with the play of four ball carriers who totaled 293 yards rushing and who scored three touchdowns. On the Calallen defensive side of the ball, senior linebacker Matt Castro had a good game totaling 15 tackles (2 solo, 13 asst.) along with junior linebacker Riggs Barrett who had 14 total tackles (5 solo, 9 asst.).

The Hornets beat PSJA 33-28 Friday night. The Hornets made a goal line stop in the final seconds of regulation. The last minute goal line stand will serve as a big momentum booster for the Hornets going into this week’s game against the Wildcats.  The Hornets had a big game rushing with 303 total yards with senior QB Braden Sherron leading the team with 124 yards rushing. The Hornets defense was in fine form the second half of the game and allowed only 7 points scored the entire second half.

The Hornet defensive line will need to play extremely well against the Wildcats if they want to stop their running game. Look for big time plays from LB Javaris Lawson, DT Isaiah Alday, DE Caleb Noland, and DB Rayden Campbell.

The Hornets will take on the Wildcats on Friday Sept. 7 at Hornet Stadium at 7:30.
